Skills and ladders: Interactive skills strategy workshop

The market is alive with discussion about becoming skills-powered, with plenty of conflicting advice and a tendency to overpromise on how straightforward it can be. However, there are many ‘snakes’ (challenges) that prevent organisations from fully embracing this journey. But fear not, for every snake, there’s a ‘ladder’ (an enabler) to help you climb higher.

We hosted an interactive workshop where we tackled the barriers to building a skills-powered organisation and showed participants how to navigate their way to success. Whether they were facing data challenges, cultural resistance, or struggling to gain executive buy-in, we helped unpack these issues and provided practical solutions to smooth the journey.

What do you mean by interactive workshop?

We believe people get the most of events that they can actually enjoy, this event was a play on snakes and ladders.

Attendees were split into small groups and rotated around our playing board to each of our expert-led sessions. Each hands-on session was short and sweet (around 20 minutes) with practical takeaways.

The event ended with a lively panel discussion and drinks reception to recap the learnings from the day and to answer any outstanding questions from our valued players.

The snakes:

The ladders:

  • Data chaos and no common skills language
  • Lack of executive buy-in
  • Cultural resistance and workforce engagement
  • High cost, time investment, and complexity
  • Creating a unified skills taxonomy
  • Building a strong business case for executives
  • Effective change management and workforce engagement strategies
  • Tech enablers that streamline skills processes

This event was aimed at senior HR & talent professionals, this workshop equipped them with the tools and insights to make informed decisions about your skills strategy. You’ll leave with:

  • A value case template to justify investment in skills initiatives.
  • A showcase of enabling technology to streamline your approach.
  • A clear framework to decide which skills approaches are best suited to your organisation.
